I believe there are important concepts, principals and techniques to possess and master within the framework of aquiring realistic defensive skills sets if your purpose is keeping yourself safe on the street. To become highly effective against anyone, whether it’s for self-defense or combat sports purposes The techniques and tactics are going to be applied differently to avoid complexity and train practicality. What factors that play a role in what skill sets are most important to learn as primary skills for both the street and MMA?
There are 4 primary types of defensive concepts in which all techniques can fall under, 1. Shielding/covering, 2. blocking/parrying, 3. Evasion/footwork. Whether it’s for the street or the ring. Although many defenses can look the same to the untrained eye, the difference lies in the psychological approach, i.e the end result, and the application and the mechanics in which are stressed to perform these skills.
